Welcome to my bonsai intensive calendar for 2025. I currently operate 2 locations in Los Angeles (Arcadia) and San Diego (Lemon Grove area). Cost is $100 per session, not including lunch.
Currently my San Diego groups are fully booked. If you’d like to join a waiting list for San Diego, please contact me privately via the contact form on my website.
In these intensives I follow these simple principles in the following order:
1) First all work is driven by the health of a tree. As a living art, if a tree dies it ceases to be bonsai. Horticulture and health is the basis for all work.
2) If a tree is healthy it is able to respond to different bonsai based techniques. We can leverage techniques to develop a tree, create branching, and generate predictable responses.
3) With great horticulture and technique, we can pursue art and realize different aesthetic visions or philosophical concepts of bonsai.
If you are interested in participating contact me via my site or my email julian.tsai96@gmail.com. Thank you for your support.
San Diego Study Group – Session 2 (g3)
May 20 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
| $100The second session for San Diego g3 will be run on 5/20. Session cost is $100, not including lunch but food is typically ordered. Group is capped at 7 slots. Please RSVP with me to confirm your slot.
Following the early spring hiatus we are now entering mid-late spring for Southern California. The study group schedule purposely has a hiatus from March – April as those are months we generally allow our trees to grow to accrue strength. For trees in development, this is necessary so that when we work and cut our trees they can respond positively and produce new growth. At this time we can do major work on deciduous material (including defoliation), as well as to wire junipers which have lignified growth. Tropicals and olives can also be repotted at this time as well. Pines are typically not worked at this time since candles are soft and elongating, but candle grafting is viable now.
