Typically juniper chinensis and our yamadori varieties will have lignified spring growth so we can wire those as well. \nPines are a no go right now since candles are soft and elongating\, however we can summer graft black pine candles! DESCRIPTION:Our next session for the North Hollywood Study Group will be September 9th! Cost is $100\, with a 50% deposit required to reserve your spot. Please RSVP or contact me at julian.tsai96@gmail.com to secure your position. \nWe’re leaving summer and beginning to get close to the start of fall. At this time we can expect all conifers except decandled black pines to be lignified and deciduous/broadleaf material to be finished with the bulk of their growing. This means we can do wiring/styling and structural/cut back work. Olives and tropicals are still okay to repot at this time too! One exception to this work is major defoliation or heavy cut backs on deciduous material–we are in a weird transition state where the trees are still growing\, but its also not quite fall. In general\, I avoid inducing heavy flushes of growth that does not have sufficient time to lignify and at minimum grow for a month before the winter/dormant period. If the tree grows too late in the year\, energy that should be dedicated towards next years buds are consumed and the tree doesn’t have enough time to build energy before winter. Session cost is $50–please RSVP with me to secure your slot! \nSpring is well underway and all of our trees should have been growing over a month since leafing out. This means our deciduous and broadleafed evergreens have begun lignifying or hardening off. Its a great opportunity to do shoot selection\, cut backs\, and defoliation with thread grafts. We can assess the state of development on these projects to set them on the right path for summer! \nTrees to bring: Japanese maples\, trident maples\, oaks\, olives\, and any other deciduous or broadleaf! \nWhat not to bring: Pines\, unhealthy trees (okay for assessment but not to work on)\, Junipers* \n*Typically junipers are pushing extensions at this time so it’s not the best timing to work on them.
